God's love is not a mood he has toward the likable. It is the way he moves toward the world — costly, specific, and unwilling to let go.

1 Corinthians 13 is not wedding stationery. It is a portrait of what love does when it is inconvenienced. Start there, then work outward to the cross, which is that portrait in flesh.
